Earlier today the Police arraigned Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor before the Ashaiman District Court charging him with Treason Felony. This comes after detaining him for more than 62 hours. The court ruled that it had no jurisdiction, therefore, denied a bail plea for Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor.
We are disappointed by this development and the blatant disregard for the personal fundamental and constitutional liberties of the state and its actors. We are shocked that the court and the prosecution turned a blind eye to the provisions of Article 14(3) of the constitution. Truly this is a clear demonstration of the impunity, oppression, and shameless disregard for the human rights and lives of citizens under this false republic.
We are highly disappointed, to say the least about the conduct of the Ghana Police Service, the law enforcers who subverted the very constitution that established them. We find it insulting that the police insinuate in court that they made arrangements to arraigned Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor before the court on Sunday when their release on Saturday morning mentioned an intention to only go to court on Monday, 14th February 2022.
We are even appalled by the shameful tactics employed by the Ghana Police Service to not put Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor before the right court of competent jurisdiction. While this reveals a deliberate attempt to show Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor “where power lies”, it also reveals the incompetence and ineptitude of the police administration. We are neither shocked nor discouraged by this because we know this comes straight from the DICTATOR’S HANDBOOK to silent dissent views.
Our legal team will take appropriate measures to ensure the case is filed at a competent court of jurisdiction to Free Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor. The team will also not overlook the gross violation of Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor’s constitutional and fundamental human rights. We believe there are still men and women of conscience in our state institutions to ensure that the state “does right to all manner of persons”
Much as we are disappointed in the handling of this case, we are happy that the case of Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor truly demonstrated the sham of the democracy established in Ghana. A corrupt system that victimizes and frustrate ordinary citizens and old reward the corrupt affluent class. Today we all witness firsthand what Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor and #FixTheCountry crusaders have been pointing out for several months now. We #StandWithOliver and despite the attempt by the state and its actors to foil our action to #FreeOliverNow, he walks into Police custody as a HERO, head and chins up. We salute your courage to take the system on. We know this will be the beginning of the end of this repressive system.
We thank everyone who continues to support Oliver and the #FixTheCountry in these trying times. We encourage the public to also continue to support the #FreeOliverNow Funds set up to cover the legal cost that comes with this case. You can send your donations to 0542827617 (Prince Addo).
We ask the public to remain calm and not take any extreme actions.
