Speech Read by – Hawa Tasala Gariba, Chairwoman, Young Urban Women’s Movement (YUWM)
The Young Urban Women’s Movement (YUWM) welcomes the Constitution Review Committee’s (CRC) report, “Transforming Ghana,” as a milestone for gender equity. We wholeheartedly endorse the recommendations to provide state-funded legal aid for survivors of domestic violence, and implement mandatory gender quotas for public appointments. Furthermore, the proposed reduction of the Presidential age to 30 and the reform of Article 71 are critical for breaking the structural barriers that have long marginalized young women in political leadership.
However, the path to a “Developmental Democracy” remains blocked by a lack of transparency. We demand the immediate release of the full CRC report to the public. We are not just beneficiaries of change; we are the architects of the New Ghana.
No reform for us, without us.
