The Royal Africa Generational Thinkers (RAGeT-AFRICA) commends the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) on the submission of their Report to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama. The report’s thematic focus on transforming Ghana from an “Electoral Democracy to Developmental Democracy” aligns with our vision for a progressive nation.
We enthusiastically endorse the CRC’s youth-centric recommendations, notably:
- Lowering the Presidential Age Limit to 30.
- Proportional Representation.
- Inclusive Local Governance: Designating 20% of appointive District Assembly seats specifically for youth (under 35) and persons with disabilities, this 20% we hope to see it reviewed upwards during the implementation phase
- Reforming the Council of State to include Youth voices.
However, the Report is only the summary. RAGeT-AFRICA demands the immediate public release of the full, comprehensive CRC Report. Transparency is paramount for an informed citizenry.
Furthermore, we call on the President to ensure substantive Youth Inclusion in the upcoming Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC). The youth must be co-architects of the reset agenda not merely passive recipients of reform.
