At about 11 o’clock this morning, the lawyers and family of Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, led by Ghana’s respected human rights defender, Mr. Akoto Ampaw, met with the Tema regional police command.
The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, follows a written demand made by the lawyers on the police command to comply with the requirements of the Constitution.
The Constitution requires that a person who is arrested, restricted, or detained upon suspicion of his having committed a crime be discharged or be brought to court within 48 hours to be considered for bail.
It has been more than 48 hours since Mr. Barker-Vormawor’s was accosted by unidentified gunmen at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana. He was later deposited with the Tema police command several kilometers outside Accra.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor has embarked on a hunger strike since his abduction by unidentified gunmen soon after he disembarked from TAP Air Portugal flight TP 1527 at about 5.00 pm.
