Some of these include the standard of living, infrastructure development, the economy, among others.
Most Ghanaians argue that they are fed up with the country’s state and demand that the government addresses the problems facing the country instead of misappropriating funds.
This started in May this year. However, the hashtag has resurfaced after some occurrences, making it seem the government is against the movement.
On June 25, 2021, the police arrested Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo and more than 10 other #FixTheCountry campaigners.
The arrest was shortly after a court hearing the case on whether or not the group should be allowed to stage a street protest adjourned proceedings.
Their arrest was condemned by many on social media. The 11 #FixTheCountry campaigners were subsequently granted bail.
Few days after this incident, a known #FixTheCountry was killed by some unknown assailants at Ejura Sekyeredumase in the Ashanti region.
Ibrahim Kaaka Mohammed was attacked on Friday (June 25, 2021) by unknown assailants who clubbed his head until he became unconscious.
Reports stated that he died on Monday (June 28, 2021) while receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Region.
A statement by the #FixTheCountry leaders said the police earlier warned Kaaka to be cautious of his utterances since they were making the government unpopular.
The activists of the #FixTheCountry said they would seek an audience with the Inspector General of Police on the matter.
They added that they would not rest until the deceased gets justice.
A day after his death, the youth in Ejura Sekyeredumase held a protest to demand that the killers are found and dealt with according to law.
However, security officers made up of the police and military dispatched to maintain law and order in the area shot at the demonstrating crowd. The shooting left two people dead and several others injured.
This has angered many Ghanaians on social media who believe the government and security agencies do not have the plight of the Ghanaian at heart.
Meanwhile, days after the death of Kaaka and over 24 hours after the shooting incident in Ejura Sekyeredumase, the government has now condemned the incident and called for an investigation into the matter.
Below are some tweets from Ghanaians registering their displeasure.
